Nexans supports Hospital's data connectivity with innovative and patented solutions
Jul 23, 2021Lima, July 2021 - If there is one thing the pandemic has demonstrated, it is the importance of connectivity, not only to prevent businesses and the economy from grinding to a halt, but also to continue providing essential services such as healthcare. Today, a hospital without internet is unable to maintain communication between its different areas, access patient records and appointments, or implement an interconnected video surveillance system.
It is therefore so important to invest in infrastructure that will allow the best possible connectivity in the country's hospitals. This is the case of the new Regional Hospital "Zacarías Correa Valdivia" that is being built in Huancavelica. This hospital will benefit about 400,000 persons with an investment of 342 million soles. Nexans Indeco, a company specialized in cabling and electrification, is in charge of supplying the data cabling of what will be the most important health center in the region, and also the electrification cabling is in the budget phase.
"As Nexans Indeco, we offer two types of service to the country's hospitals: the provision of electrical cables (i.e. power cables) that feed all the components, machinery and medical technology used in a hospital. And also, we have been awarded -in the new Regional Hospital of Huancavelica-, the provision of data and fiber optic cabling solutions, which are applied for the connectivity of computers, video surveillance cameras, telephones, medical equipment, etc.", explains César Levano, specialist at Nexans Indeco.
The main advantage of choosing high quality cabling, as Nexans Indeco offers, is the achievement of a significant reduction in the total cost of operation (TCOP). Consequently, this infrastructure is already the standard for large hospitals not only in the country, but also throughout the region. This infrastructure has been possible due to the following features:
- High Speed. At the Regional Hospital of Huancavelica, Nexans Indeco will provide category 7A cabling, as well as fiber optic solutions. Such solutions will allow the hospital to have a stable, high-speed connection. It is necessary to explain that category 6 cabling supports 1GB transmission speed, category 6A supports 10 GB transmission speed and category 7A supports between 10 GB and 25 GB transmission speed. There is a higher category, category 8, which supports 40 GB transmission speed, but it is still very recent in the national market. However, Nexans Indeco has already made it available to be implemented in any project that may require it.
"It should be noted that the category 7A cables are coupled to GG45 connector, which is a patent assigned to Nexans. This makes us pioneers in the business and demonstrates the continuous innovation that we bring to the sector", emphasizes Lévano.
- Long lifetime. Although the cost of this technology is more expensive, it is a long-term investment since high performance cables have a much longer lifetime. The technology is renewed every year; therefore, it is estimated that in 5 years, category 6 will be obsolete and will go out of the market. On the other hand, Category 7A can reach at least 15 years of lifetime. This will allow the health center, as well as any other type of infrastructure, to offer a quality service for a longer period of time.
- Remote Monitoring. This is especially important in the interior of the country, where connectivity is not always stable. The intelligent cabling to be installed can be remotely monitored. What does this mean? This means that in addition to the professionals in charge of managing the hospital network, any problems that arise can be detected and attended to from anywhere in the country, either from the Ministry of Health's headquarters or from a specialized monitoring center.
