We inaugurated the Suyo Center Project

• In 2022, Suyo, a district of Piura, suffered more than 20 blackouts, equivalent to almost a full month without electricity.
• To mitigate this problem, a solar energy system was implemented that will benefit more than 14,000 people who come to the Suyo Health Center.

Piura, October 3, 2024. According to the report Diagnosis of the situation of Infrastructure Gaps or access to services in the Energy and Mines sector 2024-2026, 16.7% of rural homes nationwide lack electricity service, which is equivalent to 257,144 homes to be electrified.

In this context, the Suyo Health Center Project, in the district of Piura, led by the NGO EcoSwell and financed by the Fondation Nexans, together with Indeco by Nexans, emerged. The project aims to ensure the permanent supply of electricity, thus contributing to improving the quality of life of the more than 14,000 people who live in the district and surroundings. The initiative also received the support of the NextEnergy Foundation and the company Huemura.

Suyo faces serious problems of access to electricity. According to OSINERGMIN, in 2022 alone, the town suffered more than 20 blackouts, equivalent to almost a full month without electricity supply. These disruptions pose a critical risk to the conservation of medicines and vaccines that prevent potentially fatal diseases, such as yellow fever, Covid-19 and tuberculosis. Blackouts of up to 7 days have been recorded during the rainy season.

To mitigate these risks, the project in charge of EcoSwell implemented an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that guarantees the electricity supply in the event of a blackout to various essential areas such as the cold chain of medicines and vaccines, laboratory, emergency areas, pharmacy, admission and topical. In addition, the system provides critical LED lighting to these areas and contemplates the installation of an 8-meter-high lightning rod, given the high frequency of rainfall in the region.

The UPS installed by EcoSwell generates 14.64 kWp of electrical energy through 24 610W photovoltaic panels, 20 300Ah batteries, 3 5 kVA inverters and a 200A charge controller. It should be noted that this system not only protects the electricity supply, but also reduces the energy consumption of the network, which represents significant economic savings for the entity.

"This is the second medical center in the region that we support with a state-of-the-art solar system. Last year we did it at the Talara Medical Center, benefiting more than 57,000 people. And in 2025 we will do something similar at the Buenos Aires Medical Center, also in the Piura region. With this, we reaffirm our commitment to electrify the future of Peruvians in the north of the country, all together with such important allies as EcoSwell and our partner Huemura," said Alex García, General Manager of INDECO by Nexans.
