Indeco by Nexans and Sonepar award 20 scholarships from the "I am a woman, I am an electrician" program

Jun 12, 2023

  • The initiative will give a group of 20 women access to a free training program that will qualify them to perform basic domestic electrical installation work.
  • In Peru, only 29% of women choose a profession related to technology, science, or mathematics.

A group of twenty young women received a full scholarship to participate in the "I am a woman, and an Electrician" training program. Senati, the higher educational institution, and the companies Indeco by Nexans and Sonepar have jointly carried out this initiative to give students the opportunity to access, completely free of charge, a training program that will allow them to undertake basic domestic electrical installation work.

According to a study conducted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in Peru only 29% of women choose a profession related to technology, science, or mathematics. As such, the program seeks to contribute to empowering women in a predominantly male environment. Furthermore, "I am a woman, and an Electrician" looks to enable graduate women to perform a profession that allows them to generate their own income, and in that way they can contribute to their family and their personal growth.

“ The opening ceremony was held at Senati head office and was attended by representatives of the three entities in charge of the program, as well as the students and their parents. “The private sector must look to the future and be the protagonist of change by investing in training women, promoting their leadership, and promoting equity within our organizations. ”

Alex Garcia

General Manager of Indeco by Nexans

“ This initiative is very satisfying for us as it aligns with our commitment to drive female participation in technology-oriented careers. Through these scholarships, SENATI will train 20 young people as electricians, thus adding to the 23% of our students who are women. This motivates us to continue working hand in hand with partner companies to contribute to reducing gender gaps. ”

Aurelio Rebaza

President of the National Council of SENATI.

“ For Sonepar, it is an immense joy to be here, participate, and promote this program; it represents our four values. The willingness of the 20 young women to dare to study a career that men have led for many years; the opportunity to contribute to the development of our customers and reaffirm that they are the center of our operations; to consolidate the commitment to people and gender equity; and finally to promote this group of female electricians as an example for future generations. ”
