Four tips to prevent electrical accidents caused by rain
Mar 27, 2023Lima, April - The passage of cyclone Yaku through our country is causing intense rainfall and floods that, in addition to causing loss of life, severely affect homes, schools, businesses, and workplaces. According to SENAHMI, a significant portion of our infrastructure is not designed to withstand high levels of precipitation, which damages the electrical system and, in turn, leads to power outages, voltage spikes, and even short circuits that jeopardize home safety. In this regard, Michel Villalba, Sales Manager of Indeco by Nexans, shares four basic tips to prevent electrical accidents caused by rain:
-
Prevent water leakage inside the house: Reinforcing roof protection or covering gaps near windows and doors is essential to prevent moisture near electrical outlets. Additionally, remember to protect any outdoor appliances or outlets, as they are highly exposed to water contact.
-
Cut off power if water enters your home: Given the intensity of the rain, it may be unavoidable for water to enter your home. In such cases, it is recommended to suspend the flow of electricity using the electrical panel.
-
Keep electrical devices away from windows: It is important to keep appliances away from areas where water can seep in. Also, make sure to disconnect any equipment that is not in use to avoid permanent damage.
-
Perform regular system maintenance: Seek the assistance of a qualified professional to inspect and perform necessary maintenance on the electrical wiring of your home. In this regard, it is crucial to use genuine cables as counterfeit versions do not meet the necessary safety standards and are more prone to causing short circuits, putting your life and that of your family at risk.
As a pioneering and innovative company in the electrical cable segment, Indeco by Nexans is committed to providing solutions that contribute to safe and sustainable electrification in all the markets where it operates.
